When you need more space, but you don’t want the cost of adding onto your house, consider finishing or renovating your basement. You can add living space, bedrooms, and even a bathroom in the basement. Before you get started, you should go through a design consultation process to make sure your visions are possible. The design consultation process also gives you the cost of finishing or renovation. Additionally, many bathrooms, especially in older homes, are very small. If a bathroom is next to a large room or closet, you may be able to expand the square footage of your bathroom and gain some must-have features.

The Design Consultant Process

After you decide to remodel your bathroom or your basement, the first thing you need to do is to find a reputable company to do the renovations for you. Once you do that, you are ready to start the design process!

Set Up a Consultation with Our Designers

When you first meet with us, have pictures of your bathroom or basement dreams. Different pictures can show different sections of what you want. You should also know what your budget is. And finally, get to know your designers during the consultation. Some of the questions you might ask your design team include:

  • Do you have photos of past projects that are similar to my project, including photos of work in progress and the finished job?

  • Are HVAC lines, plumbing and electrical lines in the basement or bathroom located in an optimal place, or will you have to move some of these items?

  • Will you bring in subcontractors to move the lines, or does your company have HVAC techs, electricians and plumbers in-house? If you bring in subcontractors, will you be here when the subcontractors are here?

  • Are my plans in line with my budget? If not, what part of the project is too costly that I might change? Do you have any ideas to get something similar to what I want and keep it within budget?

  • Are there any trends, such as enhanced vinyl plank flooring or insulating the basement ceiling that should be added to the project? Do you recommend one product over another, and if so, why?

  • How will you enter my home, and how disruptive will this project be? Do I need to be home when you are here working?

  • If you need to make a change, how do you handle that? What if your change does not fit into my budget?

  • What warranties and guarantees do you provide?

  • What is the best way to communicate with you?

  • What if I want to change something after you start the project?
